From Tremors to

Thriving on Plants

Hi, I’m Karima Peeran — a vegan foodie, LA local, and passionate advocate for rare disease awareness. I’m also living with Sialidosis Type 1, a rare neurodegenerative condition that has shaped my life in unexpected but powerful ways.

“In my early teens, I began experiencing hand tremors. By 15, I began using a wheelchair. It wasn’t easy — but through patience, gratitude, and love, I’ve grown stronger and more thankful.”

My turning point came when I met Dan and Faith, siblings from Switzerland who also have Sialidosis — yet live vibrant, healthy lives. Their secret? A vegan lifestyle! Learning how animal products could worsen our symptoms, I made the switch in 2019 and never looked back.

It wasn’t always perfect — I had to learn how to read ingredient labels carefully. But soon, I felt lighter, more focused, and energized. My tremors improved, and I found a new sense of peace and balance.

Help Fund a

Life-Changing Cure

There’s a promising gene therapy in development that could change life for people with Sialidosis — but funding is critically limited because it’s such a rare condition. I’m raising awareness and money to support the first-ever clinical trial. Every donation, share, or kind word brings us one step closer to a brighter future filled with hope, healing, and compassion.

Cure Sialidosis

A non-profit organization funding the first-ever clinical trial for Sialidosis gene therapy. Your donation directly funds cutting-edge research for this rare disease.

My personal fundraiser to help cover the costs of participating in the clinical trial and raising awareness for Sialidosis worldwide. Every contribution means the world to me.

Where I Love to Eat in LA

Honest, unsponsored reviews of vegan-friendly spots I’ve personally visited and loved  or not. Always from the heart.

JOI Café // Coffee by JOI

Rating Breakdown

When Joi first opened her restaurant, I was one of her very first customers. As a vegan, I’d been hunting for delicious comfort food that didn’t taste “off” — and JOI totally delivered. I still remember begging my mom to drive me there just to grab an iced latte and Caesar salad. Always worth it!

“In my early teens, I began experiencing hand tremors. By 15, I began using a wheelchair. It wasn’t easy — but through patience, gratitude, and love, I’ve grown stronger and more thankful.”

On another visit, I tried their Pure JOI Classic coffee (hazelnut + cinnamon), a maple donut, and French toast. The coffee was rich and velvety with cacao, coconut whip, and vanilla. I’m not even a coffee person, but I drank half the cup without realizing it! Their in-store products — cookware, protein powders, seasonal gifts, and JOI-branded caps — are a lovely bonus too.

My Favorite Plant-Based Finds

Product Name: NuttZo (Mixed nut and seed butter)

I’ve been loving this one lately. It’s a super rich nut butter made with cashews, almonds, Brazil nuts, chia, flax, and pumpkin seeds  basically everything I want in one jar. The texture is creamy with just the right amount of crunch. I’ve been having it on toast every morning with a bit of jelly and it makes breakfast feel extra cozy. Really simple, really good.

My favorite instant miso ramen! I hadn’t tried ramen in a while since most aren’t vegan, but this one is absolutely delicious. The texture is perfect for slurping the noodles without them breaking. I always add vegetables like broccoli, snap peas, asparagus, and mushroom to make it a fuller, healthier meal. I wish I could eat this every day!

GenZVeganz Rating: 5 out of 5 – This is my favorite instant  miso ramen so far! I haven’t tried ramen in a while, since it wasn’t vegan, but I found this small and quick food item to cook in a pot and it’s delicious. I wish I could eat this everyday!
